AIM OF FUBUTEC'2010
As simulation and integrated knowledge management are regarded as the driving forces behind some of the world's largest and most successful organisations the FUture BUsiness TEChnology Conference aims to push business technology research onto the next evolutionary step beyond the building blocks of present day business practices such as "Operations Research" or "Business Process Simulation" This conference is meant to integrate them all into an even higher level enterprise wide framework with its new work roles, responsibilities, reward systems methods and tools.
In other words, attaining true knowledge management is about radical and fundamentally new ways to create retain share and leverage knowledge of people and organisations in ways that were simply not possible before.
Next to the integral simulation part, the conferences try to provide a strategic business overview of knowledge management in all its varied applications. In this aspect, the conference focus is on the latest knowledge strategies that business leaders need in order to become a Knowledge Organisation and to withstand the forces of the financial and management markets in the present day precarious society, which constitutes the global environment. Business Intelligence is the Holy Grail.
As Risk Analysis and Intelligence data Analysis also constitute the driving forces in present day military and security operations, the conference also embraces these aspects in the certainty that the cross-fertilization of military thought and business environments can only lead to simulation product improvement.
This year will also feature for the second year a special track on Sustainable Development related to minimizing our carbon footprint.

All submissions will be peer reviewed by at least three members of the International Program Committee. Accepted papers will be published in the conference Proceedings (both print and electronic format on the web), that will be copyrighted and widely disseminated. All talks and tutorials, must be accompanied by a paper of between three to eight Proceedings pages.

A number of tracks are already known but new track/workshop proposals can be made till December 30.

Simulation in OR and Knowledge Management

The skill of the management scientist lies in the ability to balance the reality of the developed model with the effort that it will take to find an answer to the problem. Many decision support systems (DSS) use representational models to predict the impact of possible decisions. There are two major types of model: simulation and analytical. A more subjective approach to decision-making is needed. While information and some form of data processing are essential, the decision-maker should adopt a less structured approach to the way the data is used. The development of interactive software has given more flexibility to the way in which the decision-maker uses the data and the applied models. This is the essence of decision support systems. Simulation models as used in business, policy, conflict situations, and and crisis management through, in almost all cases, dynamic, discrete-event, and stochastic models. According to the application area, the researcher or designer should model the real-world situation very carefully. An incorrect, incomplete, or inconsistent model could result in a bad decision being made by the decision-maker possibly resulting in economic loss, physical damage or injury. The simulation models and their applications should take into account uncertainty and thus contain procedures for risk analysis. We are therefore interested in research presentations on the science of designing and developing simulation models to solve decisional problems in policy, management, conflict situations, and anti-disaster actions. In particular (but not exclusively), we welcome presentations and reports in the following areas:

The poster session only features work in progress. Next to the actual poster presentation, these submissions also feature as short papers in the Proceedings.

STUDENTS SESSION

This session is for students who want to present their work in progress or part of their doctoral thesis as a paper. Student papers are denoted by the fact that only the name of the student appears on the paper as an author. They are published as short papers in the Proceedings.

DIVERSE ACTIVITIES

For demonstrations or video sessions, please contact EUROSIS. Special session will be set up for vendor presentations in coordination with the scientific program. User Group meetings for simulation languages and tools can be organised the day before the conference. If you would like to arrange a meeting, please contact the Conference Chairs. We will be happy to provide a meeting room and other necessary equipment.

Partners for projects session(s) will be organised by EUROSIS to give potential project teams or individuals the opportunity to present their research in order to link up with fellow researchers for future research projects. Those wishing to participate in this session need to send a proposal to EUROSIS.
